Tepera Brilliant For First-Place Jays

D-Jays erase embarrassing loss on Wednesday with a lop-sided 11-1 win.

The Dunedin Blue Jays rebounded from a demoralizing extra-inning loss to the Brevard County Manatees on Wednesday with a convincing 11-1 drubbing on Thursday (Aug. 4).

Manager Clayton McCullough was unsure how his players would respond after his bullpen blew a 7-run lead the previous evening.

His concerns were answered early as his team scored 2 in the first and never stopped piling it on.

For the second consecutive night, the D-Jays starting pitcher left the game with a shutout. Drew Hutchison pitched six scoreless innings on Wednesday and Ryan Tepera followed with seven perfect innings on Thursday.

It was the 23-year-old, Sam Houston State alum's ninth win of the season. He was brilliant on the night, allowing the Manatees only four hits and striking out seven, while issuing only a single walk.

Brad Glenn, Florida State League leader, hit home run No. 22 and it was his fourth in the past four games. First baseman Sean Ochinko blasted three doubles, scored twice and had three RBIs to lead the D-Jays attack.

On Deck: The Manatees host the Jays for the final of their three-game series on Friday (Aug. 5) before the Jays head to Tampa to face the Yankees for three.

The Jays, Yankees and Threshers are tied for first with identical 21-19 records in the North Division of the FSL.

Notes:

  • The Toronto Blue Jays made Henderson Alvarez one of two choices to add to their pitching staff next week. The 21-year-old righthander made 21 starts for the D-Jays in 2010, and two more in 2011.
  • The Gulf Coast Blue Jays defeated the Gulf Coast Phillies for the second day in a row. Final score on Thursday was 4-3. Jays pitchers, led by Joe Musgrove, the 46th overall pick in 2011, limited the Phillies to just three hits.
