Toronto's Adam Lind Goes 3-3 In D-Jays Loss

Jays pitchers give up 16 hits in 10-9 defeat to Palm Beach Cardinals

The Palm Beach Cardinals pounded out 16 hits en route to a 10-9 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Thursday (June 2).

Palm Beach has the worst team batting average in the Florida State League, but you would not have known that on Thursday evening.

Jays starter Deck McGuire struggled through five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits. Three D-Jays relievers proceeded to give up another eight hits and five runs.

Toronto Blue Jay Adam Lind looked like anything but a player rehabbing. He doubled twice, singled and stole two bases. Lind has been the designated hitter the past two evenings, however, he is expected to play first base Friday before heading back to Toronto.

Cardinals pitchers struck out 13 D-Jays batters, including third basemen Kevin Ahrens (five times).

The Palm Beach Cardinals recently lost two of their superstars to AA Springfield. Shelby Miller, 20, and third basemen Zack Cox (an Arkansas alum) are ranked No. 1 and 2 in the St. Louis Cardinals organization's prospect report. Cox was hitting .335 before his call up on May 24, while Miller led the Florida State League in strikeouts before being called up June 1.

The D-Jays and Cardinals resume their four-game series Friday (June 3) at 7 p.m.

The Toronto Blue Jays top draft in 2009, Chad Jenkins, is the D-Jays probable starter.
