Orange Festival Mojo Cook-Off Champion: Marguerite's Cafe

What was the mojo-inspired dish that won over voters' taste buds?

The Orange Festival pig gets to go home with a new mojo cook-off champion this year.

An estimated 400 foodies tasted and voted for their favorite mojo-infused dishes from eight participating Dunedin restaurants at the 2013 Dunedin Orange Festival.

Among the top contestants were Flanagan's Irish Pub's mojo-injected, deep-fried turkey with cranberry-apple salsa (third place), Broadway Deli's mojo shrimp-cucumber salad and The Living Room's guava mojo chicken thigh with mini yucca and lime cumin onions (second place tie).

But only one restaurant can go home with the coveted orange, Aloha short-wearing pig trophy.

This year's winner, dethroning Sea Sea Riders, was Marguerite's Cafe & Catering on Douglas Avenue.

Marguerite Allison, owner, and Robert Guzman served up a classic spicy mojo pork with black beans that really grabbed participants by the tastebuds.

Allison will have her restaurant added to pig trophy and keep it for the next year.
