Weekend in Dunedin: Throwback Night, Theater, Black Honkeys

The best of your weekend events in Dunedin, July 20-21.

Coast Guard 'Safe Boating' Class

  • When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21
  • Where: Auxiliary classroom (second floor) at Dunedin Marina, 51 Main St.
  • Why Go? Novice and experienced boaters can learn how to react in an emergency during this two-part course. The registration deadline was July 15, so if you're itching to signup, call ahead to make sure they can take you. Cost is $35, and it covers course materials. Successful completion of the course earns you a Florida Boater Safety Certification Card. Contact Kristi Mackey at 727-736-1191 or email boatsafeaux@gmail.com. 

DST Kids Theater: 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'

  • When: 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20 or Sunday, July 21  
  • Where: Dunedin Community Center (outside on the Rotary Pavillion 
    stage), 1920 Pinehurst Rd.
  • Why Go? Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, sit back and be enchanted as student actors in the Dunedin Showcase Theater take you away on a magical journey through the land of Narnia in their summer production of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." Admission is $5. 
    UPDATE: Rain put a wrench in the group's plan to use the outdoor stage. Instead, Saturday's show will be in the Community Center's music room, and seating is limited. On Sunday the group performs on the Community Center's main stage.

Blue Jays Throwback Night

  • When: 5 p.m. Saturday, July 20
  • Where: Florida Auto Exchange Stadium
  • Why Go? When else can you see Minor League baseball players play a game in vintage 1920s-era uniforms and buy Cracker Jacks for 25 cents? Dunedin Blue Jays team up with the Dunedin Historical Museum to make it all possible. Uniforms will be auctioned at the end of the game. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m., tickets are $7 each. 

Treble Hook Soul-o at Stirling Tropical Wines

  • When: 7 p.m. Saturday, July 20
  • Where: Stirling Tropical Wines, 461 Main St., Dunedin
  • Why Go? Enjoy fruity, tropical wines or craft beers and hand-rolled cigars as Treble Hook performs a laid-back solo musical act at Dunedin's trendy downtown wine and cigar bar. Canines are most welcome. 

Black Honkeys at Marker 8 Tiki Bar

  • When: 3 p.m. Sunday, July 21
  • Where: Beso Del Sol Resort, 1414 Bayshore Blvd.
  • Why Go? It's a "Soulicious Sunday" afternoon on the tiki deck at Marker 8. Bring your beach chair and towel, and feel free to pull up to the bar on your boat. Admission is $5 admission. Free to boaters and Beso Del Sol Resort guests. For ages 18 and over.
