Labor Day Weekend in Dunedin: Barbecue, Blur White Party, Bands on the Bayou

Labor Day Chicken Dinner

  • When: Friday, Aug. 30 at 4 to 7 p.m. 
  • Where: KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, 1251 San Christopher Dr., Dunedin
  • Why Go? Get your choice of cordon bleu or baked chicken breast, seasoned potatoes, mixed vegetables, served with tossed salad, dinner rolls and cake for dessert for only $8 a person

Back to School Health Fair & Barbecue

  • When: Saturday, Aug. 31 from noon to 3 p.m.
  • Where: Here We Grow Learning Center, 1169 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Dunedin
  • Why Go? Chow down on some barbecue and pick up free school supplies and get free health screenings. Feel free to bring diaper and formula donations, too. Here We Grow Foundation serves more than 100 families in need of baby supplies.

13th Annual Geckofest

  • When: Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Gulfport on Beach Boulevard
  • Why Go? This free event features a wacky parade, vendors, tons of live entertainment and activities for children.

The White Party at Blur

  • When: Sunday, Sept. 1 from 7 to 11 p.m.
  • Where: Blur Nightclub and Showbar and the Chic-a-Boom Room, 319 Main St., Dunedin
  • Why Go? This annual event features The Cadillac Bombers band, all-day happy hour and bar tabs awarded to the best "crazy white outfit" before the clock ticks past Labor Day and it's a fashion faux pas to where it.

Bands on the Bayou Music Festival

  • When: Sunday, Sept. 1 from noon to 8 p.m.
  • Where: Craig Park, 5 Beekman Way, Tarpon Springs
  • Why Go? This music festival raises money for the Tarpon Springs Marching Band, which has several Dunedin members, who are all trying to defray costs of marching in the 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The event features tons of love music, including Sun Signs, Malaya, New Cathedral, Not Tonight Josephine, Grey Market, and Escape Tonight, as well as vendors, face painting, Tarot card readings, food trucks and more.
