Weekend's Best Events in Dunedin: Art Walk, Rap Battle, Narnia

Things to do in Dunedin this weekend include meeting artists at Stirling Art Studios, enjoying a stage production of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," and a battle for lyrical supremacy.

2nd Friday Dunedin Wine/Art Walk

  • When: 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 12; raffle prize drawings at 8:30 p.m.
  • Where: Pioneer Park, downtown Dunedin
  • Why Go? Enjoy live music in Pioneer Park and stroll downtown shops. The purchase of a $10 wristband makes you eligible for prizes, discounts and wine tastings at more than 40 participating shops and restaurants.

Pitch 4 Pink & Old School Concert

  • When:  6:30 p.m. Friday, July 12
  • Where: Bright House Field, 601 Old Coachman Rd., Clearwater
  • Why Go? This event may not be in Dunedin, but it's certainly a worthy cause. Watch the Clearwater Threshers vs. the Charlotte Stone Crabs in a game and post-game concert (featuring Rob Base and Tone Loc.) meant to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Meet the Artists of 'Expanding Visions'

  • When: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 12
  • Where: Stirling Art Studios and Gallery, 730 Broadway, second floor, Dunedin
  • Why Go? Their work adorns the gallery walls at Stirling Art Studios, now you get a chance to meet them. You can ask Dolores Glover Kaufman about her photographic transmutations or Italian artist Ugo Moi about his scenic oil paintings. (If you go: you might as well buy a $10 wristband and make it a full evening of wine tastings and art.)

"Battle Front": Rap Battle

  • When: 3 p.m. Saturday, July 13
  • Where: Blur Night Club, 319 Main St., Dunedin
  • Why Go? In case you haven't yet been introduced to the burgeoning Dunedin hip-hop scene, some "big name battle rappers" are facing off in what organizers say is "pretty much just stand up comedy directed at someone else's mom." Watch Dunedin's own Jon Ditty host (and later perform with his group "Project: SAVE c.a. hircus") and rap battles "Mosh Jelton vs. Craig Lamar" and "Jonny Voss vs. Mest," all with a live art graffiti show going on out back. Cover is $7. For ages 21 and over.

DST Kids Theater: 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'

  • When: 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13 or Sunday, July 14
  • Where: Dunedin Community Center, 1920 Pinehurst Rd.
  • Why Go? Be enchanted as student actors in the Dunedin Showcase Theater take you away on a magical journey through the land of Narnia in their summer production of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." Admission is $5.
