What has happened to this place?
That's the first thought that comes to mind.
The blurb above says Kelly's was founded in 1989 by Virgil Kelly. Well, Virgil, maybe too much time in the business caused you to get bored, careless and ambivalent. Or maybe you're just spread way too thin to care.
Kelly's has been the backbone of downtown for a long time. It has been a place where I've gone (since it opened) to celebrate life's victories, gather during family hardships, play with friends, or just have a great meal. Well, it has changed. Don't know why, but it has.
Greeted at the door by a very caustic, unfriendly and rude host. Sorry to bother you buddy, but the four of us just wanted some lunch.
Waiter was even worse...almost insulting....Goes by the name of "Joe, bag of rocks" or something like that.
Food has taken a huge dip downhill. Bread on sandwich was stale, the vegetarian sandwich was mostly filled with sprouts and had no other flavor. Promised hummus on sandwich and got a swipe like a thin layer of mustard. Avocado was absent on the sandwich too. I asked for one item on the side and didn't get it. Coleslaw that came with the meal was horribly sour and obviously old. Even the plate that this meal came on was cracked and stained by years of worn.
My friend was halfway through her breakfast when her toast came...cold.
Service all around was horrible. Food was barely mediocre at best.
Virgil...your place used to be a destination. Now it's a has been.

Since 1989, Kelly's restaurant as been serving award-winning food in the Dunedin area. A review in St. Petersburg Times put it this way "one of the best restaurants on either side of the bay." Dining at Kelly's is an experience you do not want to miss.
But not only does Kelly's serve wonderful food, the atmosphere is lively, fun, and entertaining. The Blond who greets everyone at the door makes it evident that you are in for a fun time at Kelly's.

Unfortunately I found the staff I had contact with to be condesdening and kind of rude. A very arrogant attitude. Not at all what I have experienced in other places in Dunedin.
When I first came to Dunedin, I went on a quest for breakfast spots. Kelly's is definitely one of my faves.First of all, the coffee is Cafe Bustelo. Score one! The Bloody Marys are fab and I will get a virgin one occasionally just for the fresh mix. Score two. Every day a different hollandaise sauce is featured for the Eggs Benedict. My faves include the roasted red pepper, lime-dill, and ancho chile sauces. Score three. I always choose the cheese grits as a side. Score four. The adjoining Chik-A-Boom Patio is used as is the bar. The mixed and specialty drinks are killer. Score five stars! I still say they make the best Eggs Benedict in Pinellas County. I've mostly talked breakfast. The one time I had dinner here, it was f-i-n-e! There is a lot more to discover on the menu and I have the time. Most importantly, the servers are outstanding and too much fun. They add to the atmosphere and good dining at Kelly's.

Unfortunately I had the same experience with the staff. I went back several times thinking maybe it was a bad day. But so far, there must be too many bad days. Just a bit to arrogant for my taste.
