Are there no arts requirements/standards in common core?
Diana Smith November 11, 2013 at 06:18 pm
Various states require different courses. I know WV and Florida and not requiring the same subjectsRead More to be taken. What happens when a teacher is a lousy teacher and most high school students are making D's and F's in this class. What can do done about that? Im sure there are a few students in the class with C's but that brings the students grade point averages way down. For a child that never received an F in their entire life, studies for days for the test and still fails it or makes a D, there is something wrong. What is the right way to go about this? Please answer.

I think with all technology tools, whether they are handheld video games or smart phones, it is ourRead More responsibility as parents to teach our children the best use of those tools, as well as putting limitations on the use of those tools. We gave our daughter a phone when she was 9 years old because she was a very active, busy kid and I was more comfortable being able to call HER directly if I needed to. But we imposed our rules and expectations for her use of that phone from the start. She is now 19 years old and we have never had any issues resulting from her having access to that technology from that young age. And, she never, ever lost a phone! I think they are powerful tools, they are an integral part of our lives and we need to smartly educate our young kids on their correct use within the context of their lives.

Katie Dolac August 15, 2013 at 12:53 pm

We played Largo tonight in an exhibition game and lost 46-6. It was called during the 3rd quarterRead More due to lightning in the area and also a severe injury to a Largo player. He left in an ambulance. We had one player leave with a shoulder injury as well. It was a brutal game!!

Principal Hepburn's efforts are geared in the right direction, his heart may be in the right place.Read More Standards are great. However, until kids are disciplined, at school, in the home and by society, nothing will come of all these strategies and well meaning efforts.
Mark Veldhuis August 7, 2013 at 10:06 am
I agree with the discipline, especially in the home. I am thrilled to see we have an administratorRead More that is gearing the kids toward a career, not just pushing them through for a diploma or into college. There are plenty of kids going to college that have no idea what it take to succeed in the real world. I say Great Job, Principal Hepburn.

Dunedin elementary "F" grade. What does the state pump in to the testing company coffersRead More instead of improving our children's education? I worked in testing industry and profit is paramount.

As a realtor in Tampa Bay for 17 years I moved to Dunedin from Palm Harbor this year and am trulyRead More shocked to hear that Dunedin Elementary is an F school. As a community we need to get involved to change this. Whether joining the Advisory Council, tutoring or mentoring, we can make a difference.

Can't help but notice the Curtis scores, Fundamental schools do so well. The funny thing is thatRead More fundamental schools are really no different than the schools I went to in the 70's here in Florida. We didn't call them fundamental, we just called it school. It worked. I hope we can make it work again!

Actually, Dunedin. High School was the band asked to perform with Merida in the Christmas Day ParadeRead More at Disney and then they invited us back as the feature band for the coronation of Merida last weekend, too.
