State Rep. Carl Zimmermann, D-Palm Harbor, wants to make websites remove mug shots of people who've been found innocent of crimes. Zimmermann got the idea after he was contacted by a woman who was once arrested.
State Rep. Carl Zimmermann is tackling some controversial issues during his first legislative session, which began Tuesday, March 5. The freshman lawmaker wants to make websites remove mug shots of people who've been found innocent of crimes. An email Zimmermann received from a constituent back in December prompted him to write the bill. A woman had been arrested and found innocent three years ago, but her mug shot still appeared on multiple Internet sites. Zimmermann says the woman contacted the websites requesting to have the mug shots removed, but they told her she would need to pay them a removal fee. "It was a nightmare for her to get the mugshots off the Internet, and it was wrecking her life," said Zimmermann. "It ate away at me. … …

The app, which is now available to download from iTunes, allows you to watch live meetings and see what your local representatives are voting on.
It can be challenging enough to keep up with all of your local officials in Dunedin let alone with leaders in Tallahassee. With a new mobile app launched this week, however, it will be easier for you to keep up with what Rep. Carl Zimmermann and other Florida House members are doing. Speaker Will Weatherford announced the launch of the free app this week, which is available for iPhones, iPads, Droid smartphones and Droid tablet devices. “The Florida House of Representatives is proud to provide Floridians with new and exciting ways to access information about our chamber by launching the ‘FL House’ app for iOS and Android devices,” said Weatherford in a news release. Soon, users will be able to read bills, contact House members and …

State Rep. Carl Zimmermann plans to open his district office in a small office park at the corner of Pinehurst Road and State Road 580. It should be fully operational sometime next week, he said.
Carl Zimmermann is just waiting on the phone so he can get into his new Dunedin office digs. The freshman state representative and his aides put up a fresh coat of paint inside and the furniture arrived last week, he said. As of Wednesday, he was just waiting on a phone to be connected so he can start using his new district office in Oak Tree Center next to Spoto's: The Steak Joint, at the corner of Pinehurst Road and State Road 580. The Palm Harbor resident opted for Dunedin office space because it is more centrally located for his legislative aides, who are traveling from south Pinellas county, he said. Plus, "Dunedin is new to the district — or to area that was once District 48," explained Zimmermann, a Democrat. District 48 was …

Teacher Carl Zimmermann, a freshman lawmaker, drafted a bill to keep students and teachers safe during situations like a school shooting. It's one example of how he's using his experience in the classroom in his new role as legislator.
A newly elected teacher-turned-Florida legislator is proposing school security measures that could only come from the inside. Carl Zimmermann, State Representative for District 65, which encompasses Dunedin, thinks simple changes in Florida classrooms could help save lives during a threatening situation like the recent shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Zimmermann is calling for placing locks on the inside of classroom doors and reinforcing them with bullet-proof windows. "In many schools, teachers have to leave the classroom to lock the door, because the doors only lock from the outside," he said. "The recent shootings made everyone aware of this," he said. Zimmermann, a broadcast journalism teacher at Countryside High …

Carl Zimmermann's fliers include shots of Peter Nehr with no shirt on and accusations of his desecrating the American flag. It's part of a contentious race for the District 65 seat, which covers Dunedin.
New attack fliers featuring photos of one of the candidates without a shirt on have heated up an already contentious race for the State House of Representatives District 65 seat. The fliers from Democratic challenger Carl Zimmermann feature two shirtless shots of Republican incumbent Peter Nehr of Palm Harbor and an outline of his supposed negatives, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The pictures of Nehr, 60, were intended to show off his weight loss and commitment to a healthy lifestyle to friends and acquaintances, he says. One appeared with a 2004 story in the Times, and another, more recent cell phone shot was shared with Patch after it was leaked to the media. The Times reports Zimmermann's fliers also include: Nehr told the Times the …

So happy I voted FOR Mr. Zimmerman! Yes, he was running against "Look at Me Naked" Nehr, but it was refreshing to actually vote for a quality candidate. Welcome to Dunedin!   more ›
