Dunedin's Holiday Scrapbook 2012

Here, we highlight some of the many holiday photos that you captured and shared with us this December. We are also sharing some of our favorite heartwarming holiday moments.

When Dunedin does the holidays, we do more than just make it snow in 60-degree weather. We show our holiday spirit on lamp posts, our high school students display our Scottish pride with Disney, we dress up in vintage attire, and parade around town on our boats, golf carts and motorcycles. What's Open Christmas Day in Dunedin

Almost everything is closed today, but what if you run out of milk or want to see a movie? Between grocery stores, restaurants, movies and more, here's what we found to be open Christmas Day around Dunedin.

Need an extra stocking stuffer? Run out of milk? Want to go to a movie? Prefer to let someone else do the cooking? Almost everywhere is closed in observance of Christmas today, but some stores, restaurants and places in or around Dunedin are open. Here's what we found that is open, for sure! Dunedin Firefighters' Christmas Greeting Warms Woman's Heart

"Each one of them looked right into my heart and said, 'Merry Christmas.' Not the empty words you say to a stranger, but peircing, heart-felt, kindness that I surely needed today."

Editor's Note: Dunedin Patch received this heartwarming letter on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012. It is from a woman who had just taken grandchildren to see Santa visit their neighborhood aboard a Dunedin fire truck, as part of the Dunedin Fire Department's "Operation Santa" tradition.  Hello and MERRY CHRISTMAS,  I rushed around to bring a friend's grandchildren to see the fire truck with Santa. I finally found a place to park on the side of the road. We could hear them coming and the kids were so excited. I saw the lights and the kids screamed, "He's coming, he's coming." When they reached us, we walked over to the truck and the men and women so finely dressed, handed them treats. But most blessed of all was me. Each one of them looked right …

No Solid Waste Pickup on Christmas, New Year's Day

Solid Waste collection services will resume on the Wednesday following the Christmas and New Year holidays. Christmas trees will be collected for recycling between Dec. 26 and Jan. 6.

Your garbage will have to wait. The city solid waste department will be enjoying a day off for the Christmas and New Year's holidays on Tuesday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, according to city officials. Those residents who normally receive collection on Tuesdays may instead leave their postponed garbage, recyclables, bulk or yard waste at the curb for pickup on the following Wednesday, Dec. 26 or Jan. 2. Christmas Tree Recycling To ensure your tree is recycled into mulch, residents may leave them out on a regularly scheduled bulk and yard waste collection day between Dec. 26 and Jan. 6.  Residents who do not have curbside yard waste collection services may plan a pickup date with their association or property manager by calling 727-298-3215, …
