Dunedin Firefighter's Family Wins $5K in 'Make a Comeback' Contest

Lori and Jason "Jay" Griggs will be able to use the prize money to continue physical therapy for their 4-year-old daughter Kiley, who has cerebral palsy, and to treat Jay's herniated discs.

A Dunedin firefighter and his family are getting some much-needed support thanks to their $5,000 victory in a social media contest.  Lori and Jason "Jay" Griggs, of New Port Richey, are the winners of Tampa-based Laser Spine Institute's "Make a Comeback" contest, a company spokesperson said Friday. The prize money will go toward physical therapy for their 4-year-old daughter Kiley, who has cerebral palsy, to help improve her strength, mobility and flexibility. Lori and Jason dream of Kiley being able to walk on her own some day. She can’t now. A portion will also pay for chiropractic care and massage therapy for Jay, a firefighter for more than 10 years, who has four herniated discs in his neck, causing him numbness and tingling down his …

Red Ribbon Contest Extended Due to Hurricane Sandy

The contest is part of the National Family Partnership's 27th Annual Youth Drug Prevention campaign. Ten schools from across the U.S. will each win $1,000 grant for drug prevention. Ten families will each win an iPad for their home

The National Family Partnership® (NFP) has announced that the national contest for its 27th annual Red Ribbon Week® has been extended one more week, due to Hurricane Sandy.  This means parents and students nationwide have more time to enter the contest (the original entry deadline was November 2nd). The online voting period has also been extended by a week, and is now rescheduled for November 10th-24th. Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. In 1985 after the murder of a DEA agent, parents, youth and teachers in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the destruction caused by drugs.  This year, families can get involved by …

Say ‘No’ to Drugs: Win $1,000 for Dunedin Schools

Families are invited to take part in a national contest that might net a $1,000 drug prevention grant for a local school and an iPad for their homes.

The National Family Partnership and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration are asking Dunedin families to consider putting their Halloween decorating on hold in favor of decking their halls for Red Ribbon Week. Families that do just might win a $1,000 drug prevention grant for a Dunedin area school and an iPad for their homes during this year’s Red Ribbon Week campaign. The 27th annual Red Ribbon Week celebration runs Oct. 23-31 this year. The recognition was created in 1985 after a DEA agent was killed. Now, parents, students and teachers in towns across America celebrate the week as a way to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs. This year’s Red Ribbon Week message is: “The Best Me Is Drug Free.” Students and their families can…
