Pitbull Toddler, a blues-metal group largely comprised of on-air personalities on the "Cowhead Show" (3 to 7 p.m. weekdays on 102.5 The Bone FM), promises to set a melt-your-face tone as the D-Jays open an exciting season April 4 against neighboring Florida State League rivals The Clearwater Threshers at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. The upcoming season begins with former Toronto star Ricky Romero on the roster, as well as a jam-packed schedule of events and promotions, including a weekend of festivities when the D-Jays play host to the Florida State League All-Star game in June. Thursday's game against the Threshers starts at 6:30 p.m. …

Blue Jays' Boomer Potts: Best Name in Minor Leagues?

Dunedin Blue Jays pitcher Boomer Potts moves into round two in a Minor League Baseball contest for "best" name. Help him advance past Caleb Bushyhead. Cast your vote by July 23.

Well, one thing is certain for the Dunedin Blue Jays. Fans seem to really like Dunedin Blue Jays' star pitcher Boomer Potts' name — at least more than Tyson Van Winkle of the Visalia Rawhide. The D-Jays' lefty knocked Winkle out of contention in the first round of Moniker Madness, a bracket contest to see which Minor League Baseball player has best name. Potts is now up against Caleb Bushyhead of the Orem Owlz (an affiliate of the Anaheim Angels) in round two. Round II voting continues through July 23. If Potts wins, he faces the winner of the Brian Dinkelman vs. Socrates Brito matchup in round three. Boomer's real name is Jared Potts. He acquired the nickname early in life. He explains in a story on the D-Jays' MiLB.com site: "Boomer came…

We'll most likely have showers and thunderstorms in the after noon, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight's low is 78.  2) The lowest reported gas price in Dunedin is $3.15 (cash, regular) at the Super Shop, 1001 Broadway, on TampaGasPrices.com. 3) Need another free icy drink to cool you off? Starbucks is giving one of its latest drinks — one 12-ounce Starbucks Refresher — to customers today only. The icy beverage comes in Cool Lime or Very Berry Hibiscus.  4) It's the night we've been waiting for! Tonight is 2nd Friday Art & Wine Walk downtown! New Logo and Turf for Dunedin Blue Jays

The D-Jays get a fresh look and field upgrades in time for spring.

The Dunedin Blue Jays are getting all new uniforms and a revamped field in time for next season. The team's parent organization in Toronto announced a new logo today, which means fresh uniforms for the 2012 season. The logo harkens to the team's original look, with the classic-style blue jay head in front of a red maple leaf. The D-Jays' new logo will look similar, but won't carry the maple leaf.  As for the new turf, the existing sod at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium was badly in need of an upgrade following decades of use that left the soil underneath uneven and the "consistency of peanut butter," according to head groundskeeper Pat Skunda. "When I first got here in 2004, I was under the impression the field had last been redone in 1993…

D-Jays Coach Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Darold Knowles was admitted into the Florida State League Hall of Fame on Wednesday, alongside Derek Jeter, Ivan Rodriguez and Clint Hurdle.

A Dunedin Blue Jays coach just received Hall of Fame honors. Pitching coach Darold Knowles was inducted into the Florida State League Hall of Fame on Wednesday. He has been a part of the Jays coaching staff since 2006. "He's a great guy," D-Jays spokesman Craig Durham said. "He was very excited." Knowles pitched 16 seasons in the Major Leagues and set a record in 1973 as the only pitcher to appear in all seven games of a World Series (as a member of the champion Oakland A’s). During his Major League Baseball career, Knowles played for Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, Oakland, Chicago, Texas, Montreal and St. Louis. Knowles began the Florida State League as a coach with the Clearwater Threshers in 1991 before moving to the Jays …

The Jays Report

Clearwater Defeats Jays With Three-Run Walkoff Homer

D-Jays prepare themselves for the Daytona Cubs.

Just when the D-Jays faithful were ready to celebrate a four-game sweep against their rivals from down the road, the Threshers' light hitting backup shortstop Gustavo Gonzalez launched a two-out, three-run walkoff homer. The final on Sunday (Sept. 4) was 5-4. The D-Jays built what looked like a comfortable 4-2 lead, but righthander Matt Daly gave up a pair of singles before Gonzalez's first homer of the season. Brad Glenn got the Jays in flight with his league-leading 26th homer, a two-run bomb in the second inning. Not only does Glenn lead the D-Jays in homers, he also the leads all of the Blue Jays' minor league teams in home runs. Jon Talley, who caught the final three innings for the first time this year, hit his 20th homer, a major …
