Deputies: Woman's Drug Use Leads to Child Neglect Charge

Melissa M. Kempter, 35, is charged with neglect after a child in her care was found wandering outside near a busy street on Dec. 31. Deputies allege that she was inside nearby Dunedin Cove Motel using intravenous drugs.

A Dunedin woman is charged with neglect after a child in her care was found wandering outside unattended on Dec. 31. Melissa M. Kempter, 35, was reportedly doing drugs inside her room with multiple people at Dunedin Cove Motel, and was unaware the child was missing, Pinellas County arrest records say. The motel manager reportedly found the child in the parking lot near a busy street.  Arrest records indicate that the manager knocked on Kempter's door, but no one answered. So sad. If Florida would allow medical marijuana we wouldn't be having this problem with prescription pain pills like Oxycodone and Roxicodone. Reckless Driver Dealt Crack Cocaine Charge

Jermaine Thurman was caught speeding through a southside Dunedin neighborhood last week with a large baggie of cocaine, authorities report.

A Dunedin man speeding and running stop signs through a southside neighborhood was caught last week with a large baggie of crack cocaine, according to arrest records. Jermaine Thurman, 23, of Martin Luther King Drive, was reportedly driving recklessly on a revoked license in the Lexington Street and Highland Avenue area with children and adults near the roadway shortly before 7 p.m. on Oct 17.  When he was pulled over, Thurman got out of his vehicle and attempted to run from Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies through some hedges and toward the rear of a home on Garden Circle, refusing orders to lay on the ground, according to arrest records. Tactical Armed Invasion Injures One; Suspects Still At Large

The door of an apartment inside Windemere Apartments off State Road 580 in Dunedin was kicked in early Sunday by armed assailants pretending to be law enforcement officers. One person was injured. Authorities believe it is drug related.

Armed assailants pretending to be law enforcement kicked in the front door inside Windemere Apartments demanding the contents of a safe shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday. One man received minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies. Three to five assailants are still at large. They are described as black males, wearing dark bandanas and armed with handguns. Some have tattoos on their arms. Deputies believe there to be a drug connection between the victims and the attackers. Seven people were inside the apartment. Three of them are related. Four others are friends, deputies report.
