Sister Bakers Take Sweets to Dunedin Green Market Streets

Sweet Ida Mae’s Bakery recently closed its storefront in favor of a mobile operation.

Sisters Kathy Gonja and Mary Oney-Hatt are beginning to become regulars on the downtown Dunedin Green Market scene. They are trying to capitalize on two crazes: baked good and food trucks. The women once had a brick and mortar business (Sweet Ida Mae’s Bakery in Safety Harbor) up until a few months ago, until they began to realize they sold more cookies, cupcakes and breads at area markets than their shop. So they did what any resourceful entrepreneurs would do — took the old bomb squad truck they bought in Cleveland and turned it into their primary place of business.  “Everyone thought we were crazy when we brought the truck back,” Kathy Gonja, who came from Ohio to partner with her sister four years ago, said. Tree Giveaway at Dunedin Green Market Friday

Garland Forbes is handing out pine tree seedlings to the public Friday at the Dunedin Green Market as part of his “Plant 1,000 Trees Before You Die” campaign.

Here's news that might bring a smile to your face this holiday season. A local dentist is giving away young trees for free this week. Garland Forbes will be donating pine tree seedlings to the public in an event at the Dunedin Green Market on Friday, Dec. 14. Forbes is an endodontist specializing in root canals. He is campaigning to get folks to get folks to plant pine trees. The Friday giveaway is part of his “Plant 1,000 Trees Before You Die” campaign. Over the course of his life, Forbes has planted 15,000 trees. He concentrates on the longleaf pine, which is the oldest and most common pine trees in Florida. Forbes has received recognition for his work from Congressman Gus Bilirakis and local chambers of commerce, civic groups, various …

Green Market Opens for Season Friday

Free birthday cake and hourly raffles usher in the ninth Dunedin Green Market season Friday morning, according to a news release. It is held on Fridays and Saturdays in Pioneer Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free birthday cake and hourly raffles usher in the ninth Dunedin Green Market season Friday morning, according to a news release from organizer Richard Kendler. The popular weekly downtown market features vendors with organic produce, cheeses, artisan breads, plants, local honey, seafood, and more. It is held on Fridays and Saturdays in Pioneer Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through April. Hours change to 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from May through July. Live entertainment starts at 10:30 a.m.
