5 Things to Do on Father's Day Weekend

Patch Partners With Best-Selling Author to Promote Reading

James Patterson shares his summer reading recommendations for children of all ages through the ReadKiddoRead program.

Patch is partnering with best-selling author James Patterson and his ReadKiddoRead campaign in a summer reading program designed to encourage kids' passion for reading and support parents' efforts to interest their kids in books. Aimed at parents, teachers, librarians and, of course, kids, the program launches this week across Patch's network of more than 850 community websites. Kids and parents will be encouraged to share their own recommendations, their responses to the books, and their progress with the list on their hometown Patch site. The program includes four age-specific reading lists chosen by Patterson as great summer reads: "We hope moms and dads will be inspired to take an even more active role in getting their kids into books …

Bay Area Beach Named One of Nation's Best

National Geographic has named a Tampa Bay area beach one of its Top 10 U.S. Family Beaches.

A local favorite has made another "best beaches" list, just in time for the holiday weekend. National Geographic named Siesta Key one of its Top 10 U.S. Family Beaches in a report last week. Coast Guard Beach in Massachusetts led the list, and Siesta Key came in at No. 6 nationally. In its report, the magazine cited kid-friendly amenities, beach activities, wildlife sightings and Siesta Key Village as reasons the beach made the list, specifically mentioning the Broken Egg, Old Salty Dog and Big Olaf's Creamery. Siesta Key also won local accolades last week on Patch's poll for Best Beach in the Tampa Bay Area, ultimately coming in second to Fort De Soto beach for the 2012 title. Clearwater Beach came in third in that poll, followed by Anna …

What better way to celebrate summer than with an icy treat? The Weather Channel put together some great recipes for both kid-friendly popsicles and adults-only treats.

With the weather heating up and the day off work, we had to share this fun list of 10 make-your-own popsicle recipes from The Weather Channel. All you need is some fresh ingredients, an ice cube tray or paper cups, and toothpicks or popsicle sticks. Alcohol is optional, but there are five recipes for adults-only pops if you're so inclined. Are You Taking Your Kids to Work Today?

The annual observation is today, April 26.

It’s not very often that kids ask their parents for work they can do, but that’s exactly what’s happening today throughout the Tampa Bay area and beyond. Yes, it’s time for the annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day! “For over 19 years, individuals, families, organizations, and workplaces have joined in the Day to expand opportunities and transform the lives of millions of girls and boys both nationally and internationally,” Carolyn McKecuen, president of the Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Foundation, wrote on the organization’s website.
