Mayor Dave Eggers awarded several Dunedin schools during a "Top Apples Award" program this month. The second annual event recognizes Duendin schools or employees for achievements and contributions in six categories, according a news release from Pinellas County Schools. Winners were announced, along with the following remarks from the Pinellas County Schools release: Dunedin High School was recognized for Achievement in the Arts for "extensive success and recognition by the Florida School Music Association regarding the success of the DHS performing arts programs, including the Scottish Highlander Marching Band, the jazz ensemble, the Highlander symphonic winds, chorus, pipe band, orchestra, and advanced placement music theory programs." …

Garrison-Jones Elementary and San Jose Elementary are among the 213 schools across Florida whose school grades, based on FCAT scores and other factors, were incorrectly calculated, the Department of Education admitted Friday. Garrison-Jones originally received a B grade but was upgraded to an A. San Jose was given a C but saw its grade changed to a B. That means that both schools' grades did not change from last year. The letter grades are part of a complex formula that heavily weighs on FCAT scores and the letter grade determines the amount of funding a school receives. Curtis Fundamental Elementary School is the best in the city, and Dunedin's middle and high schools also earned a "C" or higher in new rankings from the state Department of Education.
Pinellas County Schools earned a "B" in new 2010-11 school rankings from the Florida Department of Education.
