"I commend any citizen who wishes to run for a city or governmental office. My advice is to make sure the motives and intentions are correct," writes Dunedin businessman Bill Coleman.
Dear Editor, Well folks, how does Mayor Bill McElligot sound? Recently terminated from his job as Dunedin fire marshal, Bill McElligot is considering running for mayor. Bill is testing the waters as to what other Dunedin residents think about his new endeavor. I don’t know if we really get the true story behind government moves like this (Bill’s termination). It really didn’t come out of the blue. Tell-tale signs were apparent. Did Bill have to give a written accountability of his hour-by-hour work day to City Manager Rob DiSpirito, for the last few months? The recession brings another year of budget reductions for Dunedin city staff putting together a budget for 2013. A plan to restructure for efficiency may cost five jobs and three more open positions.
Dunedin Fire Marshal Bill McElligott will receive a paycheck through Oct. 1, even though he was released from his responsibilities on Tuesday. Five currently filled positions will be recommended for termination in the upcoming city budget, according to City Manager Rob DiSpirito.
Dunedin Fire Marshal Bill McElligott issued a farewell to residents Tuesday morning. He is one of a few more planned city layoffs, he said. "It was a pleasure to be a big part of a great little community," McElligott wrote in an email to Dunedin Patch on Tuesday. McElligott's is one of five city positions that are being "recommended to be reduced" as part of departmental restructuring necessary for efficiency in next year's budget, City Manager Rob DiSpirito wrote in an email to Dunedin Patch late Tuesday. DiSpirito said all but one of the employees in the positions being recommended for reduction would keep their jobs until Oct. 1. That is when the new budget takes effect. This is to "help balance a $1.2 million expected shortfall in the …

I couldn't disagree with John and Bob more. Fire Marshall Bill is egotistical and has no idea how to speak to people. Saw it first hand. Grew up in this City and he is not what I see as the mayor type.   more ›
