A Dunedin woman is charged with neglect after a child in her care was found wandering outside unattended on Dec. 31. Melissa M. Kempter, 35, was reportedly doing drugs inside her room with multiple people at Dunedin Cove Motel, and was unaware the child was missing, Pinellas County arrest records say. The motel manager reportedly found the child in the parking lot near a busy street. Arrest records indicate that the manager knocked on Kempter's door, but no one answered. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will collect unused prescription medications at 13 locations on Saturday (Aug. 28).
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is taking preventative action to combat illegally obtained prescription drugs in the sixth installment of Operation Medicine Cabinet. “A lot of these medications on the streets are coming from medicine cabinets,” said Sgt. Dan Zsido, liaison and coordinator for Operation Medicine Cabinet. Since May 2009, the county has collected 4,300 pounds of prescription medication. Pinellas County leads the state in the number of dropoff locations with 13, Zsido said. The Sheriff’s Strategic Diversion Taskforce, a pharmaceutical task force, is working with seven other law enforcement agencies to prevent unused prescription medications from getting to the street. So sad. If Florida would allow medical marijuana we wouldn't be having this problem with prescription pain pills like Oxycodone and Roxicodone. It's time to tell pharmaceutical companies they can keep their poison and go back to using Mother Nature and everything she provides us to make our own medicines.   more ›
