Dunedin Teacher Wins 'Outstanding Educator of the Year'

Fifth-grade Dunedin Elementary teacher Stephanie Whitaker was named Pinellas County's "Outstanding Educator of the Year" at the Evening of Excellence ceremony Monday (Feb. 27).

Dunedin teacher Stephanie Whitaker was named Pinellas County's "Outstanding Educator of the Year" at the Evening of Excellence ceremony Monday night at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Whitaker, 29, teaches fifth-grade ESOL at Dunedin Elementary School.  As part of her reward, she takes a chauffeur-driven limo to work Tuesday (Feb. 28) to be greeted by her school’s principal, students and peers, according to a press release from the Pinellas Education Foundation. Whitaker was chosen for her leadership initiatives at the local, state and national level and nominated for her engaging teaching style, according to the press release. Adam Zeph Dominates Countywide Scholarship Competition

Pinellas County high school students compete for thousands of dollars at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Dunedin High School junior Adam Zeph stole the Walker’s Rising Stars show Monday in front of a sold out show at Ruth Eckerd Hall. The performing arts student was competing in the drama category, along with 29 other students countywide for thousands of dollars in Pinellas Education Foundation scholarships (in each category). After months of practice and training, Zeph walked away with first place honors in drama, the title of “fan favorite” and “audience favorite,” which landed him a new Apple iPhone and a $7,000 scholarship for his monologue from “Welcome to Hell” by Rowan Atkins.
