Sail Honeymoon is fast approaching the end of its concessionaire license agreement with the city, and some residents and elected officials want to amend the contract so the business can stay. Here's what Dunedin's saying about it.
Dunedin Patch's story last week about efforts to work around legal conditions outlined in Sail Honeymoon's contract has gotten lots of attention from readers. Commissioner Julie Scales, along with the Dunedin Beach Civic Association, is supporting a last-minute amendment to a concessionaire contract for the iconic kayak and sailboat rental business as it is about to expire. Although owner Glen Stienke is allowed to re-bid, the city is required to open it to other bidders as well. The story attracted several insightful comments on Patch, and below are just a few of them. In my few dealings with the Sail Honeymoon business, I've had no complaints. They are great to work with and seem to enjoy their jobs. They always upkeep the area around them and bring activity to the Causeway. I think it's only fair, though, to open it up for bids, as that would be the only fair way to do that.
