Shop Local on Small Business Saturday

Just what is Small Business Saturday and why should you support it in Dunedin?

Big name national retailers take the spotlight on Black Friday as their deep price cuts pull in shoppers in droves. What about those mom-and-pop businesses all over Dunedin and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. Sweet Peas Café Makes Dining with Children Delightful

Danielle Pastore recently opened a new, child-focused restaurant with outdoor seating and a play area, a respite for parents who dread eating out with young children in Dunedin.

Imagine it.  A safe, relaxing place where your child can play with their friends and parents can sit with other parents and enjoy a healthy meal. The kind of place where the only option for kids isn’t fried mystery meat, and you don't have to worry about the children getting bored and acting out. Sounds nice doesn't it? Well, recently opened Sweet Peas Café in downtown Dunedin has created the impossible. Owner Danielle Pastore tried to think of everything a family would want. The menu focuses on local and organic ingredients and all items come in either kid sizes or adult size. Pastore also installed an outside hand washing station where children can clean up before eating and still be under their parent’s watchful eye. When Pastore was …

American Running Company to Move Near Countryside Mall

"We will be next door to the running path that goes over US 19. So we will have hill practice during our monthly runs," Dunedin's only specialty running shop disclosed in a Nov. 1 email newsletter.

Dunedin's only specialty running store is moving to Clearwater this January. American Running Company, which hosts dozens of area 5K races, announced it would be moving from its Sweetbay shopping center location for a spot next to incoming Sea Dog Brewery near Westfield Countryside Mall on U.S. Highway 19 early next year. The move to 26024 U.S. Highway 19 N., Clearwater, is exactly 2.11 miles from its Dunedin location, an email newsletter states. Owners expect to open at the new location Jan. 7, and they are planning a grand opening celebration. "We will be next door to the running path that goes over US 19. So we will have hill practice during our monthly runs," the company disclosed in a Nov. 1 email newsletter. American Running Company …

Tony's Pizza Opens on Main Street in Dunedin

The owner of Tony's Pizzeria in downtown Clearwater opened a storefront in downtown Dunedin on Thursday.

Fans of Tony's Pizzeria, a fixture in downtown Clearwater, can rejoice. The popular pizza shop opened its expanded downtown Dunedin location at 320 Main St. (previous Darling Memories), across from Kelly's and Chic-a-Boom Room, on Nov. 8.  Tony’s menu features dine-in and take-out options and a large variety of Italian dishes, including gourmet pizzas, calzones, chicken wings, soups, salads, hot and cold sandwiches and hamburgers. The eatery also sells pizza by the slice, starting at $2.34 for cheese and up to $3.27 for meat lovers. It is open until midnight during the week and later on weekends. The shop is just one part of owner Tony Starova's expansion plans, which also included Tuesday's grand opening of Capitol Beer House, a beer bar …

Dunedin Grad to Bring Craft Brews to Clearwater Beach

The wine and Florida-based beer bar is expected to open by year's end on north Clearwater Beach.

A Dunedin native will soon bring the gift of craft beer to Clearwater Beach. Cork N Brew Bistro is set to open before year's end on the 500 block of Mandalay Avenue at the base of the Sandpearl Resort on north Clearwater Beach, according to owner Jackie Eash. Eash grew up in Dunedin and graduated from Dunedin High School. After working and living on Clearwater Beach the last few years she decided it was time to open her own place. The bar features 20 craft beers on tap from local, Florida and international breweries and and about 40 bottles of wine — some of which can be sampled in Napa Technology Wine Tasting dispensers, Eash said. "It's a very fun, interactive system for people to use," Eash said. The bar also will offer small plates, …
