The director of Suncoast Animal League is leading a class for people interested in becoming a foster parent for shelter animals. Enrollment ends Friday.
If you love animals, you might want to consider becoming a foster parent for the Suncoast Animal League. Fostering is a rewarding and much-needed volunteer task that saves hundreds of animals at Suncoast Animal League each year. Puppies, kittens, dogs and cats are in need of foster homes for a wide variety of reasons: Interested in learning more? A special class for Suncoast Animal League foster parents will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, at The Centre. The class will be led by Executive Director Rick Chaboudy and should run approximately 1½ hours. Current foster parents are also encouraged to attend as information is updated regularly. Pinellas County is looking for volunteers to help with dog walking, straightening up parks, painting, training, office work, fundraising and more.
Do you like to throw a tennis ball or take a walk in the fresh air? Pinellas County Volunteer Services needs you. Anyone 16 or older who is strong enough to handle big dogs can lend a hand at Animal Services. The shelter's dogs need exercise at least two times per day, and preferably three. "If a dog sits in a cage, he's like a rubber band. He gets wound up," adoption coordinator Tyson Youts said. "The dogs need training, socialization and to be able to be more relaxed." Youts said that walking increases a dog's chance of adoption, too, because dogs who get regular exercise are less stressed. Plus, the volunteers provide notes about a dog's personality and information such as whether it knows how to sit or seems to be housebroken. …

Here, at the aquarium, all of our dolphins are protected by shaded structures, such as covers and canopies, the majority of the day.
