City Brand Moves Into Marketing Phase

City commissioners approved a trademark license agreement for Dunedin's logo, but wanted to see more from staff on how to use it to target tourists to the city, in a Dec. 20 public meeting at City Hall.

Dunedin's colorful, wavy "E" brand is ready for marketing, now that city leaders approved legalese for its use. The only thing missing is a target audience, commissioners said at a Dec. 20 public meeting. City Attorney Tom Trask's royalty-free trademark license agreement was a vital part of the preliminary brand marketing plan from city staff.  Businesses and organizations will have to agree to the city's trademark license agreement if they want to use the new logo on marketing materials. "Consistency is extremely important," Commissioner Julie Scales said. "I think it's very important that we be firm in monitoring that sort of thing." Letter to the Editor: Leaders Should Have Kept Branding Local

A Dunedin resident shares his thoughts on the logo that an outside consultant group recently revealed as part of a $73,000 community branding project.

Editor's note: This letter was sent to Patch in response to the recent unveiling of a proposed logo for the city. It is part of a $73,000 branding project with an outside consulting agency that was approved in April 2011. The city solicited feedback to help shape Dunedin's brand via a survey in the summer. A logo based on the feedback was revealed to the public on Jan. 19. The city is now asking for community feedback. This is what one community member had to say: Dear Editor, It’s easy to be a Monday morning quarterback and voice opinions after the fact.
