A Dunedin tree barber is accused of striking a Clearwater Police officer with a rock while attempting to flee during the midnight hour on March 13. Two Clearwater Police officers were responding to a call about a prowler around 12:15 a.m. on March 13, when they encountered Martin Quintero, 48, of 1153 Pinehurst Road, on the porch of a home on Druid Road in Clearwater, according to Pinellas County arrest records. When the officers identified themselves, Quintero fled on foot, falling in a neighboring driveway. As Quintero got back up, the officers report that he threw a handful of rocks at Officer Scott Durivou. One of the rocks struck Durivou in the forehead, causing a laceration. After the death of Dunedin High grad Jason Paul, family members, friends and neighbors gathered in Crest Lake Park to remember and move forward.
A bagpipe solo and candles illuminating a path inside Crest Lake Park on Feb. 23 honored the life of stabbing victim Jason Paul. The candlelight vigil, which featured a Dunedin High bagpiper, is part to show support for the family and for Crest Lake Park, said JoAnna Siskin, president of the Skycrest Neighborhood Association. Paul, a 2008 Dunedin High grad, was bicycling home from work and a quick stop at the store shortly before he stabbed near Crest Lake Park in Clearwater on Jan. 6. Clearwater Police still are looking for a suspect, motive and weapon. More events are being planned to bring a more positive energy to the park, she said. Clearwater Police arrested Skylar D Jones, 19, and Tyler Louis Zerin, 18, both of Duncan Loop in Dunedin, on Feb. 14, and charged them each with four felony counts of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling for incidents in Clearwater and Dunedin. One of two suspects in a Jan. 15 armed robbery at the Munchee's convenience store on Union Street turned himself into authorities Friday. Kwuashawn Wyche, 16, of the 1000 block of N. Martin Luther King Avenue in Clearwater, walked into the Clearwater Police Department around noon Feb. 15. Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives report that they were able to identify the suspect based on tips received from people who recognized his voice and mannerisms in a surveillance video released to the media. Jason Paul's family increased the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect Tuesday. In an effort to generate credible information and leads in the city's first homicide of the year Paul's family added $10,000 to the $1,000 Crime Stoppers reward already offered, according to Clearwater Police. Detectives say Paul, 22, was riding his bike home from work at Sunset Point Road and U.S. 19. He stopped at Walmart and bought some items. Renee and John Langfritz have no idea who would have killed their only child. Their son Jason Taylor Paul liked to skateboard and ride his bike. He had his own place and minded his own business. He worked two jobs but recently was cut to just one at Tiger Direct. He worshiped the ground on which Marley, his boxer mix, walked. They spent their free time at Crest Lake Park. Herman Acosta, 43, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing toilet pipes from Clearwater Main Library, according to Clearwater Police.
Update: Suspect Herman Acosta was also arrested last week and charged with committing similar crimes at several Largo fast food restaurants, police said. Pinellas County sheriff's deputies plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at Clearwater High School Friday night.
Harold Davis and Jason Hennis died after an impaired driver hit the motorcycle the two were riding Aug. 19, 2008. Clearwater Police investigated, arresting and charging Jimmy Dunn, who had a history of DUI arrests. Dunn was found guilty of DUI manslaughter and is serving 40 years in prison, according to state records. As a memorial to Davis and Hennis, Pinellas County sheriff's deputies plan a sobriety checkpoint at Clearwater High School Friday night. The checkpoint is planned from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. at the school which is located along busy Gulf to Bay Boulevard near Hercules Avenue. Pinellas County deputies charged a man involved in barricading himself in a Dunedin residence with attempted murder.
Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office have charged a Clearwater man with attempted murder after he was apprehended in Dunedin earlier today. Per police reports, Martez Allen, 23, of 1008 Pinellas St. in Clearwater, had a domestic dispute last night with his girlfriend, Ashley Cawart, 26. The two share the same residence. During the dispute, Allen called Cawart and threatened to kill her over a recent breakup. When Cawart arrived home, Allen began shooting at her vehicle. Allen then dragged Cawart out of her vehicle and shot at her at point-blank range. All of the gunshots missed Cawart. Police allege Allen then took Cawart's car, fleeing the scene.
