City officials are expected to approve a $34,000 project to install a glass-enclosed reading room at Dunedin Public Library.
Dunedin library is likely to get a glass-enclosed quiet reading room. The roughly $34,000 project would mean installing several 5/8-inch glass panels with one entry door for an enclosed, "quiet reading room" inside the Dunedin Public Library, according to a city memo. "The room will have a classic library feel with a 'hint' of the former Public Library that was once located at the current City Hall," writes Phyllis Gorshe, library director, in a memo to the city manager. City leaders are expected to give final approval for Glass Services Inc. of Clearwater's bid on the project at Thursday night's commission meeting. The Dunedin Public Library Foundation donated at least $30,000 toward construction of a quiet reading room. Sign up for the …

Dunedin Public Library established its first, free offsite book exchange site in front of the Dunedin Historical Museum recently.
The new artistic box in downtown Dunedin is a bookworm's delight. Book lovers can "Read 4 Free," according to what's painted on an orange fruit-decorated box, which looks a bit like an artistic mailbox, outside the Dunedin Historical Museum. To use the box, courtesy the Dunedin Public Library, participants may drop a used book and pick one to take. The exchange is completely free and runs on the honor system. The Dunedin Historical Museum and Society posted photos of the book drop on its Facebook page Tuesday, April 30. The toilets in the men's restroom at the Dunedin Public Library aren't the only ones to be victimized by thieves, and authorities are working on tracking down a suspect. It turns out that toilet flush valves were also recently stolen from the restrooms at the Dunedin Historical Society and Museum, Bay News 9 reports, and from at least three Clearwater locations. The valves, which cost the city about $75 apiece to replace, were reported stolen from the library last week, as first reported by Dunedin Patch. Similar crimes were also reported at the Clearwater Main Library, the Checkers on Gulf to Bay Boulevard and McDonald's, at 539 S. Missouri Ave., also were hit, according to Clearwater Police. Three toilet flush valves were reported missing from the men's restroom at Dunedin Public Library on Wednesday, Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies report.
Toilet flush valves went missing from the men's restroom at Dunedin Public Library on Wednesday, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports. Cleaning service staff alerted a library employee of three toilet valves they noticed to be missing from stalls inside the men's restroom around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Sloan parts control water flow into the toilet, and are located on the outside of most commercial grade toilets, including the ones at the library. They can be removed with as little as three common tools and cost the city about $75 each to replace. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was notified after two valves had already been replaced on two of the toilets Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.
