That number, according to the Florida Lottery, tops the previous $587.5 million Powerball record jackpot set in November 2012. Players in Arizona and Missouri won that prize, the lottery website says. Florida, by the way, hasn’t had the best showing in jackpot wins since it joined the Powerball’s other 42 states in 2009. Wednesday night's Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $260 million. The drawing will be tonight at 10:59 p.m. “When jackpots are on the rise, both loyal Powerball players and new players purchase tickets for their chance to become Powerball’s next big winner,” said Florida Lottery secretary Cynthia O’Connell in a news release. “The excitement and anticipation is felt throughout the nation leading up to the drawing.
