What's going on in Dunedin that's not happening anywhere else? Let's see ... A rubber duck derby, a Celtic rock concert, art parties, and freebies for giving food donations!

1) Art Walk 3rd Friday: Meet some of the members of the Creative Artists Guild of Dunedin at a gallery just off the beaten path. Swing by the 7 Arches Art Gallery starting at noon. (Event details here.)  2) The First Dunedin Rubber Duck Derby: The kids and young at heart will really enjoy this family-friendly event at Weaver Park on Saturday. Purchase a rubber duck sponsorship for only $5 and cheer it on as it's released to race from the end of the pier to the shore. Sponsors of the first three ducks to reach the shore win prizes. German food and beer, homecoming and Suds on Sunday round out this weekend’s events.

Now’s the time to make plans to be part of these top picks for the weekend. Free Concert Pocket Change brings its Motown, R&B, funk and soul music to the Dunedin Community Center for the last of the outdoor Nielsen Starlight Concerts Series beginning at 7 p.m. As always, blankets, snacks, and well-behaved dogs are welcome. Best Beards and Moustaches In One Place Saturday

Beard contest raises money for charity, as do a few other top activities in Dunedin this weekend.

Here’s the scoop on a handful of events awaiting your participation this Sept. 23 and 24. Free Concert Late Night Brass, a 10-piece group from Tampa Bay, performs horn-driven hits from groups like Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Blood Sweat & Tears, Kool & The Gang, KC & The Sunshine Band, Miami Sound Machine and more at this week’s Nielsen Starlight Concerts Series. Brews and Black Honkeys at BeerFest Saturday

The party attracted 500 last year. Proceeds benefit Dunedin's dog rescue and brewers guild groups.

What’s better than a night of bar hopping? Having more than 70 of the finest brews gathered in one spot with taps (and bottles) wide open, that’s what. And that is exactly what you’ll find at BeerFest 2011, hosted by the Dunedin House of Beer at Our Lady of Lourdes on Sept. 17 (5 to 9 p.m.). BeerFest 2011 promises something for everyone — even kids and well-behaved leashed dogs. It features bouncy houses, food and wine vendors, live music by The Black Honkeys and the King of Cigars. Last year’s event drew a crowd of 500, and publicity coordinator Dawn Carney said she expects another impressive turnout. Proceeds support the Dunedin Doggie Rescue and the Dunedin Brewers Guild.
