ReplyOh man. I'm so sad. I just moved to this area from MA 6 months ago and was thrilled to find Hannafords (my all time favorite grocery store) had a subsidiary. Now... what? Publix and pay more? So bummed...

ReplyA big YAY for New Year's celebrations in Dunedin! However, I do agree with Beth (above) in hoping that those who do not qualify as a merchant do not think this applies to them as well. I have a lovely *cough*cough* garage band that meets behind my home who insists they are "live entertainment" and should be treated as such. :-P

ReplyMake friends with a mechanic! When you find a shop and/or professional who is reliable and educated about your vehicle, bring in some thank you treats for the whole shop such as home-baked goodies or a round of iced tea/coffee. Showing a little extra appreciation can help you form a relationship which always pays off long term.

The idea of official visits by our elected representatives to these locations sounds fantastic, but I admit that it leaves a bit of a sour taste when you realize how finances and planning could/should be used to improve our own city. What if there was a happy medium? What if one official, say the Mayor, led a group of citizens on a trip? What if some sort of discounted plan, or partially city-sponsored travel arrangements could be made that would both save the city money and encourage a much broader spectrum of Dunedin-ites to participate?
As others have noted, of course we want to encourage travel and relationships between Dunedin, Toronto, and Sterling!.. but what would happen if one of our exchange guests were to be robbed or assaulted while visitng the stadium or other areas?
