ReplyBob Hackworth is the best candidate running for Mayor, hands down. We need his leadership as well as his vision of what Dunedin needs to do in order to continue being one of the best small towns in America. We can't stand on past accomplishments, we must always move forward and innovate. He has the courage of his convictions and the fortitude to see them through to completion. Go Bob!!!

Jeff, I was told that Skip"s (one of my personal favorites) did not offer any Happy Hour Specials. Please correct me if that is not true. Thanks.

Michael, thanks for your observations. Walt informed me he did not offer any Happy Hour specials at Old Bay Cafe nor did 7th Sun. The other fine establishments you mentioned did not fit our criteria of "Downtown" which was east to Mezze on Main, north to Skinner Blvd., West to the water and South to the Stadium. Perhaps after recovery from the first list and replenishment of my bank account I can tackle all the other great bars in the city of Dunedin. Thanks again for your comments.

ReplyIf Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Largo can pass such an ordinance without waiting for the County, it mystifies me why Dunedin must wait for county action. We have always led in forward thinking actions why not in this important statement of our support for diversity? Come on commissioners, LEAD!!!

ReplySome of Bob's best traits are courage and leadership. One of many examples that comes to mind is his support for the purchase of the Weaver Park property. When this was first proposed at an initial asking price over $20 million, many people including commissioners were opposed. Bob's response was to wait and let the appraisal process work its course. After a couple of appraisals, tough negotiating and some excellent staff work we secured this once in a lifetime property for around $6 million paid with grants. Throughout the ups and downs of this process Bob counseled patience to allow for time to reveal all the facts. Many were opposed at the beginning and Bob demonstrated the leadership and courage to see it through to a great conclusion. I truly believe that if not for Bob's vision and courage we would not have a Weaver Park today. Go Bob.

ReplyEven though Bascettis has only been open a short time, owner Jimmy Stewart has created a beautiful space and truly inspired Italian food. Everyone should give it a try. I'm not detracting anything from the other great nominees, however, Bascettis is a real gem.
