Dunedin Man Dies in Scooter Crash

Gordon Haboush, 57, was killed following a crash in Dunedin Sunday morning.

A Dunedin man died Sunday following a crash at the intersection of State Road 580 and Belcher Road.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Gordon Haboush was traveling northbound on Belcher Road approaching SR 580 and began driving through stopped vehicles on his scooter.

Haboush, authorities said, then traveled between the curb lane and the right turn only lane, pulling into the patch of the oncoming 1996 Jeep Cherokee.

Deputies said Haboush, 57, was struck and then trapped under the Jeep.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was not injured.

The sheriff's office said Haboush was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which happened at 10:38 a.m. Sunday.

State Road 580 was shut down for more than four hours Sunday following the crash.
